Some Means On How You Can Handle Stress

By Shawn Palmer

Are you stressed? Most people are, from one source or another. If it isn’t work, it’s school or family. Stress is miserable, but more importantly it can also affect your body.

If you suffer from stress, you also likely experience one or more of these symptoms: headache, ulcer, stomach pain, back or neck pain, muscle spasm, heart disease, teeth grinding, and so on. None of these are pleasant to experience, and some are quite bad for your health.

Some research suggests that there is a connection between these illnesses and the experience of chronic stress. It isn’t coincidence that stressed people tend also to have physical symptoms. Plus stress blocks your creativity and productivity, making you still more ineffectual and stressed over time. You have to know how to get a handle on and control your stress level before things get bad. If you don’t, you are risking your health.

Try some of the following tips on how to handle stress:

First, you need to get a sufficient amount of sleep. You should be sleeping in a comfortable, clean area, and try to go to bed at the same time each evening if possible. Stay away from alcohol and caffeine in the evenings.

Try to get at least thirty to forty minutes of exercise daily. This doesn’t have to be strenuous. Even brisk walking or jogging will help. You can get a gym membership also, which will help you work out.

Proper hydration is important. Drink plenty of water, and keep away from caffeinated beverages. Stay away from mood altering substances such as Valium, or illegal drugs.

You can even get deep relaxation by indulging in something like a nice full body massage at a spa. In many spas you can even ask for a scented candle and soothing music during your massage. Follow this up with a warm bath later.

Remember, the most important change you can make is to smile more. Smile not just at friends and family but also at strangers. You’ll be glad you did, and you may even make some new friends.
