Wishful Thinking Or Intuition

These romantic words came forth from the handsome prince as he wooed his lady love in the 1940 Walt Disney film Pinocchio. You and I both know it’s just a film, but nevertheless, it appeals to something in our own hearts, to have our own wishes fulfilled. It stirs up the hope that perhaps it can happen for us, that we will get what we want if we wish hard enough.

It’s how many people are interpreting the law of attraction these days; that if you set your intention, focus, and keep focusing on what you want, then you will draw the focus of your attention to you. It is true to say that at a fundamental level, where your attention goes, energy flows. Many of us find that this is especially true when you focus your attention on something negative that’s happening around you. For example, if someone at work is catching your attention with their negative statements about how bad things are, and you give them the attention they are seeking, then you are helping to build up the energy field that they are creating. It isn’t what you want, and you certainly don’t want to make things worse, but you think you can help them to get out of their negative state of mind by talking to them or trying to make them take a different perspective.

Most times this will not work and we find that the better thing to do is to turn away from whatever the situation is and concentrate our energy on something more deserving. You become more sensitive to things more deserving of your attention when your intuition is working for you and with you. You can funnel your thoughts and wishes, your actions and feelings into the way you find something that will bring positive harmony into your life. Intuitive guidance gives you the confidence to keep focussed and not feel like you have to push too hard. On the flip side, wishful thinking is different. It drives you onto railtracks of yearning that cannot be stepped off until you reach your destination. That can be so exhausting; wanting, desiring something or someone who does not feel the same.

Obsessions starts as wishful thinking; wishful thinking that has been allowed to blossom because we haven’t stayed connected to the realities around us. Everyone has the responsibility to know what is going on around us and within us so we can attune ourselves to the realities. Intuition plays a big part here, allowing ourselves to judge what is real or not, how to pick up the clues and interpret them.

More than one level of consciousness is involved which brings me to another vital part of this piece; the various levels of consciousness that intuition and wishful thinking come from and work in. Intuition comes from a deeper place, more contemplative, allowing you to become attuned to your surroundings and be able to communicate effectively; giving you the abilitly to give out the right signals, the right comments, when that moment of understanding hits.Wishful thinking is a superficial being, very linea in that it is a tick-tock kind of thing, automatic. It gives you no room for maneouvre, you become fixed and stay there.

You cannot afford to consider other possibilities because that means you might have to accept another outcome in how your wish is fulfilled. When you have a wishlist that includes only one outcome you are in a win-lose situation. You have no alternatives to fall back upon is you lose. Intuition allows for the many possibilities that go with the creative flow or thoughts and feelings into action. It’s a win-win situation. Sure, you might wish you could be with that special person but you realise that, in this wonderfully diverse world of ours, you might be just as happy with another person who is more suitable.

If your intuition is genuine and you are meant to be with that special person then you can ease back and chill, enjoy the flow of the experience and let it give birth in its own time. You can carry on with your life if the feeling is real in the knowledge that you can allow the space for it to evolve. Intuition turns to reality in this space, share it with the other person so they too have the chance to join in these feelings. If they too have this intuition then the burgeoning relationship will be all the sweeter, all the more enjoyable to the wait, the slow burn. Wishful thinking is something you do on your own, locked inside your own obsession. Which path would you rather follow.
