The Advantages Of Choosing Linen

By Sarah K Howarth

Linen is nowadays, the most widely worn fabric, when it comes to dressing. It is available easily and is also very frequently worn. Its texture is very soft and, like all fabrics, linen too has some pros and cons to its credit.

It is not only for the shirts, but also works for the pants. Many designers often combine linen with other material such as silk, cotton, wool and synthetic fabrics, in order to provide the best combination of these materials. For a business casual selection, you can have a silk shirt and a linen suit. It gives a formal and unique appearance.

Linen is not only easy to buy; it is very versatile and chic. The fabric has its nature and times when it can be worn. Some fabrics like cotton or silk can be worn in particular weathers and not in very hot summers. However, linen is one such fabric, which when sewn into men trousers can be easily worn all round the year. It is weather friendly and can adjust in all climatic conditions. Moreover, its quality also does not deteriorate in the due course.

The durability factor of any fabric is what makes it a perfect and recommended piece of cloth. This quality is there in linen. Linen is much more durable than cotton, and it lasts long with pretty much the same look as when it is brought new.

Apart from the pants, linen shirts are also popular among men. They can be easily hand washed, machine washed and dry cleaned as well. It is often recommended to wear this material during the summer time due to its absorbent feature. It helps to absorb perspiration while leaving the body cool and relaxed.

Men shirts are available in two styles. One is for the casual look and the other for the classy and elegant look. The casual look is usually in half sleeves, whereas the formal one has long sleeves. It often comes in light and cool colours such as ecru, ivory, tan, grey and white. Now, they are also available in light colours of blue and even pink for most men. The material used for making shirts is usually airy and cool.

Linen is a relatively easy to wash fabric and does not stain easily. Linen loves water and requires a lot of water for rinsing after it has been washed. In fact linen is best rinsed in running water. Linen needs a medium to hot iron when ironing and can be starched as well. If too much starch is used the fabric will become stiff, therefore it should be lightly starched. Linen should be ironed when it’s still slightly damp.

Thus, linen as a fabric has a lot of advantages, and it must be frequently used in all kinds of stitching, both for men and women.
