Know How Much Can You Save With Coupons

By Sara Marri

A casual coupon clipper can quickly become an addicted coupon clipper as soon as she starts to see some serious savings at the cash register! And it’s not hard to see those savings if you choose the right coupons, find the sales to match, and know what the prices are regularly. Seeing how much can you save with coupons can be very rewarding indeed!

Plenty! A real coupon addict won’t even buy a product other than every day necessities unless she has a coupon for it. Years ago coupons were mainly for grocery items, and more often than not, they were limited to being issued in order to introduce a new product, making it more appealing for consumers to try something unknown and unproven. After all, what reason could you possibly have for trying another frozen TV dinner if you were already happy with the brand you’d been buying for years?

Many of these new customers remained faithful to the product and company, so through the following years companies increased their coupons and marketing strategy changed a bit from trying to get new customers to keeping the ones they have.

Nowadays, coupons are available for virtually anything. Products from peanut butter to beer, nail polish to lumber. High end boutiques have very generous coupons at holiday time, and even the local “dollar stores” have started to print some very valuable coupons such as $5 off a $25 purchase. You’re already getting good buys to begin with, but saving another $5 off already inexpensive merchandise is a deal most people can’t pass up.

Many stores will send customers coupons for a free item such as a free sample of shower gel or eye liner in the hopes that you’ll buy something else when you get there. Salons will offer a “free haircut for new customers” – and the haircut alone is usually at least $30.

Some people don’t like using these coupons, however, because they feel guilty. They figure they should at least buy something else – which is exactly what the store wants you to do. Don’t! Go ahead and have your free service or get your free sample!

Coupons can be found for anything. Lawn services, maid services, spa services. Liquor, restaurants, coffee shops. Even large department stores have coupons that can save you anywhere from $10, $20 or over $100 depending on what you buy. A typical 20% off coupon from Macy’s can save you $8. 50 on a pair of jeans they have on sale this week, or $120 on a vacuum cleaner. In this case, the more you spend you the more you save.
