Deciding to hike the tallest mountain in Africa will be an exciting adventure. Depending on the route that is hiked, it will take around a week to complete. In order to make the most out of the trek, here are some tips to help with the training for Kilimanjaro.

Making cardio workout a daily activity is extremely important. This could mean anything from stepping on the treadmill and slowly increasing the grade, to going out for a long walk, or finding some stairs to go up and down. The trek consists of a lot of walking with not too much of a steep incline. So training your muscles for about a week of walking for hours upon hours is extremely important.

An even better way to prepare would be to head out with friends to some local trails. Rather than just a day trek, make a full weekend out of it and get used to sleeping outdoors. Because there will be sherpas and porters assisting on the actual Kilimanjaro trek, hiking with a lot of weight is not a necessity.

Landing a few days early in Moshi before the hike is also not a bad idea. By doing this, it will help reduce the likelihood of getting altitude sickness while trekking. This also will provide some time to do some shorter hikes around the area.

A sure way to ruin the trek is by not having a comfortable pair of hiking boots. Borrowing or buying a new pair right before heading out is a way to guarantee major feet issues after a day or two on the trail. A way to prevent this is by wearing the boots while out on those long walks.

With these tips hopefully the trek will be more enjoyable for the joints and muscles. Best of luck with the training for Kilimanjaro. One last thought, take in the scenes on the hike up the mountain and not just the goal of reaching the top. Training For Kilimanjaro
