Downtown San Francisco Hotels: The Place To Be

By Errol Grange

Why San Francisco? Well, mix old-world charm and hipster exuberance and you begin to understand the ever-evolving charm. Pepper in landmarks like the Golden Gate, Chinatown, and the Moscone Center and you start to piece together the mosaic of a city that was once called the Paris of the West. If you’re planning to visit the Paris of West, you may be bewildered by the number of downtown San Francisco hotels that are reasonably priced.

The city is host and ring master to an array of accommodations. From boutique hotels to budget motels to Victorian apartments to sleek new high-rises — you’re sure to find something that compels you to reach for your wallet and jump into bed. No matter what your budget is, you are bound to find a lovely place to stay. Remember: there is no such thing as a bad view in San Francisco.

Many of the popular tourist spots and cultural landmarks can be found downtown. Of course, in a city that’s only seven square miles wide, it’s not hard to see where downtown is. Just head for the skyscrapers, with the Transamerican Tower leading the way. Yes, it’s easy to get around from spot to spot, but at the end of the day the last place you want to be is tired and 10 blocks from your hotel. Book a room in a hotel that’s centrally located for you.

One of the main benefit of staying centrally located is convenience. If you’re staying in downtown, you’re only a few blocks from the Embarcadero, Fisherman’s Wharf, Chinatown and North Beach! That four for the price of one, so to speak. Sure, you could walk, but why would you? San Francisco’s public transport is second only to New York’s in terms of scale, convenience, and affordability.

Nestled in the bosom of downtown is the lovely jewel, Union Square. Think of Union Square as the Times Square of the city — except more shopping. It’s like a massive outdoor mall, complete with fountains, glass and lots and lots of espresso. A few blocks away will put you at the doorstep of the Moscone Centre and the world-famous SF Museum of Modern Art. Art, shopping, and all the history and great food you can shake a stick at!

The very best downtown San Francisco hotels are the ones that you can afford. Start planning your stay today!
