The city of Barcelona, Spain is a stunning metropolis on the coast of the Mediterranean. Barcelona is Spain’s second biggest town with over 1.6 million residents, and it is the capitol of Catalonia. Famous for abundant nightlife opportunities and fine cuisine, Barcelona offers much for any visitor to enjoy.

One of Barcelona’s major visitor attractions is certainly FC Barcelona. FC Barcelona was set up in 1899, and since its inception, the team has gone on to become one of the most successful football groups in Spanish and Western european soccer history. In 2009, Barcelona became the first team in La Liga history to win the league, Copa del Rey, and UEFA Champion’s Leage titles in the same season. Holiday makers wishing to catch a match should buy tickets from the club far ahead. Don’t expect to find tickets available for major matches against rivals like Real Madrid, but with a stadium that seats almost 100,000 fans, tickets can be booked for some of the less stimulating match ups.

No trip to Barcelona would be conclusive without a trip to Barcelona’s most outstanding landmark, the Sagrada Familia. Antoni Gaudi’s yet to be finished cathedral rises into the Barcelona sky and is tangible for miles. When finished, the church will have a 558 foot dome and it will seat 13,000 people. Construction will likely still take one or two years, but visitors are actually permitted. Buying a ticket permits access to the church’s interior and the museum in the basement. Be sure to ascend to the top of one of the cathedral’s towers for an outstanding view of the town.

The Picasso Museum is another Barcelona landmark. This museum contains over 3,000 works by the artist which represent Picasso’s early inventive expression.

These are simply a few of many things worth doing in the city. Barcelona is a wonderful town filled with so much to see one visit can never be enough.
