Make Long Flights Seem Shorter By Following These Tips

By Gay Devereux

Months of slaving away at your office desk calls for a well-deserved vacation. However, oftentimes getting to one’s destination requires putting up with long flights first. If you are about to embark on a trip of a lifetime, you might want to continue reading. The following are some simple tips on making extended travel times seem shorter.

Putting some essentials in your carry-on luggage is the secret. Often you make a checklist of everything you will need at your destination. It’s very important that you also bring some must-haves to help you survive hours spent inside the plane.

Make time fly faster by having fun. That is why you should bring with you something that can keep you entertained. Before you hit the airport, drop by the local bookstore to grab a paperback novel. Other people like to go for magazines instead. They are lighter and cheaper too, plus they may be easily discarded afterwards so luggage space is conserved.

If you’re one of those tech-savvy people, make sure that your favorite gadget is within reach. Portable ones are the best as they allow you to travel lightly. It’s a good thing that you have so many choices especially these days, from e-book readers, music players to tablets that are capable of doing many other things. Just make sure they are fully charged before you hit the airport. Better yet, stash some spare batteries somewhere in your carry-on luggage.

Snacking is one way to kill boredom and make you feel happy. Pack your favorite treats so that there’s something to eat whenever hunger kicks in. It’s a good idea to avoid anything that is greasy, laden with fat and hard to digest. Further, be considerate of your co-passengers by staying away from anything that can fill the cabin with its smell.

Temperature inside the plane can drop considerably. Protect yourself from it by bringing a jacket, small blanket and a pair of socks. Keep your skin from getting dry by buying lotion and a stick of lip balm once you have passed the security terminal.

When you quit counting down the hours, long flights tend to appear shorter. The best way to do so is by getting some sleep. This is also great so that you can feel revitalized and look fresh when you get to your destination. Take some essentials aboard the plane to get you to dreamland, such as earplugs, eye mask and a small yet comfy pillow.
