Karachi city houses many historical places, museums, parks and art galleries. There is a cultural museum called National Museum of Pakistan, which is known among the distinct attractions of the city. The museum is always crowded with people including foreign and local tourists. It was constructed on 17th April, 1950, in the beautiful Frere Hall. National Museum of Pakistan was opened to collect and convey the real study of Pakistan’s rich cultural history.

You experience a very colonial architecture while entering the building. It is one of the most fascinating and prestigious museums of Pakistan. The museum had four galleries before 1970 but after that this number increased to eleven. The two worth-appreciating things that one gets to see in this museum are the three hundred copies of Holy Quran and a collection of about fifty-eight thousand coins. A gallery called “Quran Gallery” is totally specified for the old copies of Holy Quran in which more than 52 manuscripts are displayed. Some of the manuscripts even date back to hundreds of years. A large number of them belong to Persian style, some belong to Urdu and some are written in Kufic script. Some of the copies are written purely with ink of gold and the borders are colored with precious stones.

A very interesting possession of National museum of Pakistan is the Quran’s Photostat which was the possession of Hazrat Usman (R.A). When he was reading this Quran, an arrow came right through the window, attacked him and the caliph fell headlong. The stains of his blood can be seen even today.

The visitors of National museum of Pakistan get to see several antique items. Great sculptural works can also be viewed in this beautiful gallery. The most famous sculpture is the one of “The priest king”. An estimation of about 70,000 reading material copies is part of the museum, which includes some publications and books for general public. Other fascinating displays in the museum consist of documents related to political history of Pakistan, ancient coins, miniature paintings, Islamic art, sculptures of Gandhara art and Indus civilizations. Dozens of exhibitions are held in the National museum of Pakistan in which a large number of tourists take part. The museum’s auditorium has a seating capacity of about 250 people. There is a proper management for the preservation of objects displayed in this museum.
