Online Travel’s Continuous Growth

Following the recommendations of a colleague on online travel, a female tourist went online and decided to do her travel plans on her own. She may just be starting on the internet travel scene but she already has the following fabulous finds in her hand a train fare for Chicago to New York City and back for an affordable rate of $33, hotel accommodation in Austin, Texas for just a price of $26 and best of all, $100 takes her to Denver on a round trip plane ticket.

If you suddenly decide to pack your bags and go on vacation for the weekend, you can find great deals without a sweat. Most of consumers today are thankful for online travel perks at the touch of a button which enable them to have great deals for their travel bookings such as online airfare wars and quick Internet connections and these pave the way to the rising number of people that rely on cyberspace for great travel finds. Over 35 million Americans got all their travel needs online last year, shares an independent outfit specializing in travel research. The remaining 19 million, according to the company, researched online about places and destinations.

This year the Internet is expected to generate nearly $53 billion in leisure travel bookings alone nearly 22 percent of the travel industry’s revenues, according to a projection from another research firm. Earnings are not that easy to make since the growing number of consumers savvy on the web will transact business with any website that can give them a great deal. Thirty five percent of these online travelers are extremely brand loyal. An example would be the technique employed by a web travel planner which is leaving no key website unvisited. A couple who loves to tour the world constantly visits the Internet for good train, plane and accommodation.

It is just sad that this has damaged the business of travel agents, even when agents are at the edge with their ability to offer advice and help in avoiding booking sales for those with little ability or patience to look for the best deals. But the way I see it is if you have a computer, why would you bother with a travel agent? The hotel market has become one of the hottest sectors of online travel, accounting for $8.7 billion in leisure bookings in 2003.

With the way they spend a lot on investment and promotion, the two biggest online travel service providers have started the market share war. Both are successful when it comes to bringing in corporate clients. Today’s business analysts state that in order for the online agencies to attain success in the endeavors, they must venture into developing a package that already includes car rental, airfare and hotel accommodation within just one attractive deal. At least half of its earnings will be generated from sources beyond airplane ticket sales for the first time. He avers that travel bundles are now the in thing. Looking forward, it will keep gaining ground way beyond they way that most people now do.
