Digging Around In The San Jose Calendar Of Events

By Eddie Howard

San Jose, other than being a happening place, is the Capital of Silicon Valley and the third largest city in the state. It’s home to the top 20 tech firms in the world and enjoys the highest standard of living of any city in California. It remains a bulwark of innovation and has managed to hold fast in the face of this most recent economic downturn.

I’m not saying the city is impervious to a bad economy, but it’s managing to keep it together so far. In fact, it’s even shown a bit of an up tick in job creation. How long that lasts is anyone’s guess. Indeed, you only have to glance at a San Jose calendar of events to see the cultural scene is still in full swing.

From concerts to theater shows to the latest films, San Jose is a gleaming cultural epicenter for the South Bay. It’s home to a number of great venues and is never at a loss for great hotel rooms and restaurants. You only have to drive down any street in downtown to see it is quickly becoming a challenge to the likes of San Francisco and Oakland.

Sure, it’s a thriving city, but San Jose still suffers in the shadows. Silicon Valley is a better known and more familiar moniker for the region and one that totally supplants San Jose’s identity. In fact, more people are familiar with Cupertino and Mountain View as they are the respective homes of Apple and Google.

Slowly but surely, the city is getting the recognition is deserves. Of course it’s never going to out do San Francisco, but it will outgrow it. In fact, it’s now the tenth largest city in the nation. As Silicon Valley thrives, San Jose will continue to assert its claim as the capital of the valley.

For all the latest and greatest news and events, make sure you hit up the San Jose Calendar of Events that best suits your tastes.
