Tips On How To Spend Your Holiday Off At The Wonderful Coastal Maine

By Jonathan Bradford

If you want a great holiday idea, why not go to coastal Maine? There is so much to do there! Go kite flying, check out the fishing, head for the beach or go touring on a boat.

You will be amazed at how spectacular the sunsets are if you go aboard a sunset cruise. You can also watch whales and seals on a whale watching tour. Or you might go with some lobstermen and take a lobster trip – have you ever hauled in lobster pots? You can!

If you love nature you’ve come to the right area. There are miles of unspoiled natural habitat to hike and explore.

Some people aren’t so excited about outdoors and nature. For them, the historic and cultural events of Maine will be a draw. Check out the lighthouses, historic sites, art galleries, and museums. If you are visiting at the right time, attend the annual antique festival. If not, duck into one of the many antique shops in the area for a blast from the past.

You can also relax in local parks and enjoy the indigenous plants. You may be able to go to a literary event, or the lobster or blueberry festival, depending on when you are visiting.

If you are a fan of bed and breakfast inns, you don’t want to skip Maine. This state has some of the most beautiful and romantic ones, many of which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. To give but one example, you could stay in one inn that has been open for business for more than 300 years – and which has been run by the same family during this time. You can stay at an inn that has its own private beach and ocean view. You can easily find accommodations that have amenities like private decks, AC, televisions, private baths, and even refrigerators.

You might even find a room with a two person Jacuzzi tub, or an inn with a heated pool or a library with wood burning fireplace. Some inns have nifty complementary features like stationery, bottled water or soda, or newspapers.

Be sure to be clear about when you want to stay, when you call for information. Rates vary not only by room and view, but also by season. Ask also about tax, the quoted price may not be inclusive. Be aware that inns may not be open year round so check on availability, and ask if there are any special package deals. You may be able to get a free lobster dinner or other benefit with a two-night stay.

Be sure to check into all of the rules and regulations before you make your decision, also. Find out about child and pet accommodation if this will be relevant to you, ask about check in and check out times, house rules, reservation requirements, methods of payment accepted, and charge for cancellation. Better to know these things ahead of time and choose the right site, than to book a room that ends up being unusable or displeasing.

This writer also regularly publishes articles regarding things such as Egyptian cotton bedding and queen waterbed sheets.
