Top Tips on Planning a Wedding
Anyone who has a wedding to plan will be only to aware how much there is to organize, and unless you make a detailed plan it can be easy to forget something off the list of things to do. Even if your wedding is only a small affair there is still a list of tasks to accomplish and details to be dealt with. Planning a wedding is all about organization, the more organized you are the smoother everything will go on the big day.
One of the first things to decide upon for any couple planning their wedding is the date. Everything else has to be organized with this date in mind. The date you choose will affect other decisions, such as the venue, the ceremony and the honeymoon. If you want your wedding ceremony to take place in a particular location but the date isn’t available then you will have to re-consider one or the other.
Next you should draw up a list of the people you want to invite to your wedding. Although this doesn’t have to be set in stone, you will need an approximate idea of how many guests will be attending before you can book the location of the wedding. Your guest list is certain to change many times as some people are added and there will be guests who are unable to attend for various reasons.
Once you are decided on a date and have a rough idea of how many guests will be attending, the next thing is where the wedding is to take place. This could involve 2 bookings, one for the ceremony and another for the reception afterwards, or both can be held in the one venue. Where your wedding is to take place is an extremely important part of the planning as you need to think about the time of year, the weather and the location in relation to travel time, amongst other factors.
Many young people these days are so busy with full-time jobs and other commitments they barely have time to plan their own weddings. In some cases they will delegate certain tasks to members of the family or friends they have asked to help out. In others they will simply employ the services of a wedding planner who can arrange everything for them, wedding planners are experts and can give good practical assistance. A reputable wedding planner will know all the best locations for a wedding venue, which flowers are in season at the time of year you want to get married, and a multitude of other details that can allow your wedding to be organized with a minimum of fuss and stress. They will also be able to price everything up for you and have contacts in the industry that can get you discounts.
Now the most important decisions are out of the way it is time to think about if you are going to have a best man or a maid of honor and who you will ask to take on these important roles. Depending on the size of the wedding you might also want bridesmaids, groomsmen and flower girls. Ushers are always necessary at a large wedding as they help organize the guests as they arrive and let everyone know where they should be sitting.
Catering is another important issue that will need planning well ahead of the wedding date. Consider the time of day your wedding is planned for and what sort of meal guests might expect. If the reception is to be held in the evening then guests you might want to provide dinner, whereas a light buffet for an afternoon wedding should suffice.
Now you can concentrate on the details, your wedding clothes for a start. If you are getting a wedding dress that is being specially designed and tailored for you then this can take months to complete so ensure you leave plenty of time. Many people start planning their wedding a year in advance as popular locations can get booked up very quickly and good bride dressmakers are always kept busy. For the reception you will need music, whether it is a local DJ, your favorite CD’s or a band you want to book, and invitations need to be selected, written and sent out leaving enough time for people to make their own arrangements and reply.
One very important aspect of any wedding not to leave to the last minute is the honeymoon. After the stress of planning a wedding, a luxury honeymoon spent in the company of the one you love should be an unforgettable holiday experience.
