How To Measure And Fit A Curtain Pole

By Sarah K Howarth

Curtains are important for decorating the interior of any room. A room looks incomplete without curtains, even if it is completely furnished. Curtains are chosen with extreme care because of their importance, but the significance of curtain poles cannot be neglected, as without those, beautiful and costly curtains cannot be hanged up on windows.

Curtain poles are not just rods to hang curtains but they are important for the overall look; they harmonize curtains to enhance their effect. Wrong selection can wipe out the entire look of the curtains as well as the room.

It is not at all a difficult task to measure the curtains. It is very easy and simple; all it requires is a bit of attention in following the procedure of taking the measurements; and then, you are all set to do it. This article will give you a step-by-step guidance for measuring the curtain poles and then fitting them to meet your required length of the curtains. So, keep on reading to learn about the procedure, so that you can do it next time when you need it.

There are different styles of curtains, according to which curtain poles are fixed in different ways. For tab top curtains and eyelet curtains, measure in centimetres from the top of the pole to about 1.5cm above the floor or ridge. Also, remember that if you over-measure for tab tops or eyelets, there is no room for modification. Do not add a grant for the rise above the eyelets, which we usually do. Similarly, for pencil pleat or pinch pleat curtains on a pole, measure from the bottom of the pole ring; that is where the metal eye is fixed into the base of the ring to approximately 1.5cm above the flooring.

Similarly, if you have a very large window then you will have to use more than one pole and join them to meet your specifications. However, you may find manufacturers who will make custom curtain poles for you, according to your requirements. Now, we move on to the actual measurement of the curtain pole.

Bracket should be placed on the fixing plate by tightening the screw, positioned on the base of the bracket. Now, the pole can be positioned on the bracket and rings can be put in place.

This gives you the total length of the curtain poles that you require for your window. Now, coming to the fitting part, you need to measure the length of the curtains to determine the height, where you need to fix the curtain pole. However, the standard placement of the curtain pole is just an inch above the window recess. If you want to give a tall look to your room, you can use curtains of very long length, but for that, you will have to place the curtain poles way above the curtain recess to achieve your desired height.

If you have windows at home and you want to decorate those with curtains in such a way that it gives a graceful touch to the room, you need to be selective about the curtains and the curtain poles.
