A Sarouk rug is a kind of Persian carpet that initially came from Iran, actually the Arak rug weaving region, mostly made in the late 1800′s and early 1900′s.

For a good specimen you could be looking at shelling out $45,000 to $60,000 for a carpet measuring around 9′ x 12′.

There are other styles of Sarouk rug, for instance a Ferehan, a Feheran Sarouk, a Malayer or Josan, and it helps to be acquainted with something of the divergences among them.

One of the types from the 1800′s was the Ferehan [it must be noted it is just called a Ferehan - not a Ferehan Sarouk]. The Ferehan’s used to be fabricated from about 1875 to 1913 or thereabouts. Virtually all of this type of had rose madder backgrounds with all over designs, no medallion shapes.

These samples are rarely found nowadays because they almost certainly have all worn out. Later from around 1890 to 1914 another weave came along just identified as Sarouks, but since that time they have become known as Ferehan Sarouks.

These do not look like the original Ferehans in that they are finer, with around 270 knots per square inch and these are heavier being double-wefted. This style regularly features medallion shapes with background color of blue or ivory.

Because the Ferehan Sarouks have grown to be so scarce thus their cost has gone up to make them tremendously expensive. The other two styles said prior to this, the Malayer and Josan fabricated in other villages are frequently mistaken for Sarouk rugs because their patterns are something like in that they feature medallions, however they are never of the very same quality as Ferehan Sarouks.

It would appear also that replicas of the ancient Sarouks have been made in India having not a large amount success but lately the standard has improved, they are better made and are making use of a quantity of the older designs. Many of the manufacturers of these type of carpets have managed to replicate the beautiful old rose shade, but even so, they might not seem to be quite the same as an old Ferehan Sarouk.

If you are searching for a Sarouk rug it is best to go to a trustworthy dealer who is able to show or show you the variation concerning the different designs. of Sarouk rug. If you are going to pay out a serious quantity of cash on a Sarouk rug make sure you are obtaining what you are paying for.
