Even if we are aware that death is our ever-present companion during our existence, it is inevitable that we feel extreme pain when a person who we really care about dies. Nevertheless, in order to come to terms with the death of a loved one, we need to confront the situation head on. Moreover, the fact stands that if the person who passed away was part of your immediate family, you must take part in the preparations and arrangement for the funeral service. It may be that sorrow will threaten to overwhelm you at this time, making you incapable of making decisions; a good funeral home may be able to offer their assistance at this moment. Nevertheless, you still have to manage several things regarding the funeral service preparations.

A funeral is an expression of how one lived his life and it must be carried out accordingly. Most funeral homes are willing to compromise upon their standard method of funeral services for incorporating certain cultural or religious preferences of the deceased and of his or her family.

The first stage of a funeral service can range from a couple of hours to various days and it is known as visitation. In this, family members and acquaintances assemble in memory of the deceased. Then begin the standard funeral proceedings, which can be held in a chapel, a mortuary, a church or any other place that can serve as an appropriate memorial for the dead person. You will also have to book a funeral coach or hearse to bear the body, if the funeral is taking place outdoors.

Once this is over, the family and others move to the cemetery for the next phase of the funeral. You can either opt for this to be handled by a family member or by a clergyman. You also need to take care of various other aspects like the type of flowers you would require for the service, if you want to exhibit a photo of the deceased and who will be the person leading the service.

The closing step of the ritual is the burial, and the manner this is done depends on the preference of the family members, their religious leanings, cultural tradition or as established by the deceased in a last will and testament. The burial can be done on a family plot or a graveyard, or if the dead person had wanted a cremation, the ashes can be kept in an urn or spread at a proper location.
