By Michael Gillen

Looking for some fun? Whatever you do, Don't Click Here!

At this moment, Twitter is huge. Every company, from Chrysler to Macy’s, is hiring a social media agency, or doing the work in house. Chances are you know why web marketing matters so much, but you probably don’t know the most efficacious way to use Twitter for your business. So, here is a brief course so you can learn how to use this exciting medium.

Your first step is to ensure that you have a wonderful Twitter profile. Include a nice, high res photo and do your best to follow as many persons that you can. Work with your profile so that it includes info about your company and, as always, include a link.

Once you’ve done that, your next mission is to start Tweeting. Always keep in mind that social media is a two-way conversation, not just a marketing soapbox. There have been untold of Twitter strategies that seem to have never learned this. Make sure that your Twitter is continuously giving out things people want to read. For example, if you’re a car company, you could try Tweeting about how to increase their mileage per gallon.

Now you have to start asking questions. Ask persons how they feel about your product, if there are any other way to use it, or how they want the product to change. As you already know, the whole world just loves talking about themselves, so by letting them do this, you’ll have wonderful way to get people to make a connection with you.

As always, keep in mind that you don’t have to lose your mind to use Twitter. There’s no point trying to read every last thing on your Twitter feed. Instead, you should use Twitter’s search function to try to see if people are talking about you (and, if they are, what they are saying). This way you can discover what problems need to be dealt with, but, as always, don’t lose your mind in the quest to respond to all of them. Always keep in mind that technology is supposed to make our lives simpler, not more complicated.
