So You Think You Know Everything About Corporate Gifts?
By Gareth Brody
To be highly knowledgeable in the art of gift giving, we must be able to differentiate between corporate and personal gift giving. For personal gift giving, it is comonly acceptable to spend just a little amount for the item because, generally, in this kind of gift giving it is the thought that matters. However, being miserly on corporate gifts is unexcusable, as it could signify the thoughtlessness of the giver and could even insult the recipient.
Corporate gifts are usually expensive items and they do not carry any company symbol or brand name, as their purpose is not marketing or advertising. However, at times corporations also give employees and potential clients promotional merchandise such as USB drives, mouse-pads, key-chains and stationery items that are emblazoned with the company logo.
As in the case of any other gifts, the selection of a corporate gift also depends on the person to whom the item is to be given. Business gifting should always be selected with the recipient in mind. There is no point giving a gift – especially a corporate gift – to someone who will not treasure what we have gifted. We should be seeking to create a ‘WOW’ wherever possible.
The perceived value of a corporate gift is its most critical feature. It is this factor which has the desired impact on the customer or employee, which aids in developing and maintaining a healthy working rapport with them. Before giving a corporate gift, you should consult with your legal department about any restrictions that may have been imposed by law on this act.
Before buying corporate gifts you should plan your expense, find out the number of gifts to be given, and try to find good deals for a bulk purchase from the wholesalers. The preparation is more important with respect to employee gifts, even more so if your business is a mid-sized or large corporation. It is important to make sure that there are sufficient gifts to express your appreciation to every worthy employee.
Always keep the law and expense related factors in mind when giving corporate gifts
