The Difference between Jack Daniel’s and SEO

By Dan Logan

Looking for some fun? Whatever you do, Don't Click Here!

Did you know that the process through which Jack Daniels produces its famous whiskey hasn’t changed in over 100 years? It’s amazing how some industries will constantly evolve while others basically remained unchanged. SEO is one that is constantly producing new and more efficient ways to influence search engines results. With the search engines themselves constantly changing the rules of the game, it’s something that you can’t just put on autopilot.

Apple’s Siri is the latest product to change how Local SEO is done. When you ask Siri to find you a local shop, it will display the results and omit any PPC advertising and will often be able to direct you without you ever visiting that company’s website.

With the other Cell Phone companies surely to follow suit, and with experts estimating that 30% of all searches will contain a local element by 2015, it is more important than ever to optimize your Mobile Site for Local SEO.

If you want to be included within those Siri searches, you’ll want to focus on making your site compatible with mobile browsers. Put all of your local information such as address, phone and hours of operation on the homepage. Also include any specials or coupons prominently on the homepage.

You will need to focus on review sites like Yelp.com. Monitor the activity regarding your company on sites like this. When consumers see you actively participate in online conversations, it goes a long way. With sites like Citysearch, Superpages, Yellow Pages and Local.com, you’ll want to make sure they all have updated and current information on your company. If there are any inconsistencies, search engines will punish you for it.

If you have Siri, test it out for your business and see what comes up. But then again, Siri is so creepily smart, it will probably just reply, “You should know this”.
