Anyone who regularly reads newspapers, papers and goes online will have read several articles. These can be used in many different ways. Some articles are written purely for information purposes were others are used to market websites and goods. Understanding how to write a great article can be difficult even if you are a seasoned pro. So why not take a look at the 6 stages which will enable you to learn how to write a great article.
Step one – make sure that you state what the article is going to be about in the first paragraph. This does not have to be a long and lengthy description, it just has to set out the theme. Do this and you will create a firm base for the article.
Step two – in the next paragraph you should aim to summarize the main points of the article. This gives the reader a taste of what is to come and will hook their attention. You should not be simply re-hashing what has been said in paragraph one though.
Step three – learn how to write in engaging style suitable for the article you are writing. This means not switching styles mid article and this can be very confusing for the reader. Some people find this comes naturally to them, whereas others struggle little. If you find that you struggle keep going to your article as you are writing to ensure similarity of style throughout.
Step four – to really engage the reader write as though you are having a conversation with them. Write in a way that will pull them in and want to carry on reading what you have to say. Being too stuffy or overly serious when writing will put your readers off, especially if you are writing for a certain audience.
Step five – if you are going to be writing on a topic that you have never heard of do your research. There is no point in writing something that will end up being confusing or that does not have the correct information. Do this and you will find that your articles are criticized for your lack of professionalism. Take the time to understand subjects or simply do not write on them. It is better to turn down an article rather than write a poor one, particularly if it is your job.
Step six – never wander off topic when you are writing as this creates a very disjointed article. If you have a tendency to do this keep reading and re-reading your article as you write. While you are doing this ask yourself the question “Am I on topic?” and you will not go wrong.
Now that you have the six tips on how to write a great article it is time to get started. Follow the tips and you will find your own writing style and start to produce some great articles. With time you will continue to improve and you might even be able to make a living out of writing articles.
