Why Every Home Business Should Perform SEO like a Marketing Firm

As the owner of a home business, you understand just how important getting people to your website is. However, home businesses don’t have the resources to get people to your site with the same strategies that large corporations can. You can read thousands of articles on how to use Facebook and Twitter for business but, if you don’t have the time and money to make these strategies a reality, then all of those articles are not worth the paper they’re printed on. With that being said, there is one technique that you can do, both cheaply and without using up too much of your time: search engine optimization, or SEO. Every home business should utilize an SEO strategy in order to get more visitors to their website, even if that strategy is not very intense. The benefits are wonderful and the amount of time and money you’ll have to spend are minor, which is great for a home business that doesn’t have the time to hire an internet marketing firm.

When it comes to SEO, I do not mean pay per click advertising, which is how search engines earn their money. In case you weren’t aware, pay per click are those ads next to your search results. We call it “pay per click” because search engines charge a customer for each instance somebody clicks on ad. What we’re talking about, on the other hand, is changing your website so that it can be higher in the search engine results without paying for it.

What I’m talking about beats out pay per click for numerous reasons. First of all, pay per click obviously costs more based on how any clicks you receive. That is to say, if your websites starts receiving more visitors, you’re going to have to dole out more money, which can get ridiculously expensive quickly. On the other hand, SEO can either be free (or, if you do work with an outside marketing firm, a flat fee). So, no matter how many people come to your webpage, you won’t have to pay any more money.

SEO is also a great idea for home businesses because it’s considered vastly more liked by search engine users users. In recent years companies and academics have run countless studies, which taught that search engine users eschew pretty much anything that is called an advertisement, which PPC ads are. If you have a PPC ad you will get fewer clicks than somebody who is ranked first organically, so even though you’re wasting a lot of money, you’re not getting as much for it.

Of course, when it comes to running an SEO campaign for a home business, you must have more than reasons why, you also need to have a concrete plan on how to actually do it. That’s a bit beyond the scope of this article, but if you perform a search for one, you should click on the first result; if they’re ranked well on a search engine, then the author obviously knows what she’s talking about!
