No doubt that speaking in public will give anybody butterfly, but realizing that your speech means such a lot to many people when you are invited to give a toast as the maid of respect, can drive any girl to distraction. You will need to effectively convey your devotion to your best friend, the bride, and your happiness that she has found the man of her dreams with whom she wants to spend the rest of her life. OK, now what?
Expressing Your Thanks
Typically the maid of honor toast will follow that of the best man. You can start out by thanking the mother and father of the bride and groom, or whoever is hosting the celebration, for their generousness at giving such a fabulous reception. You are able to say stuff like “the bride and her dress combined seem like a million dollars. I wonder who is footing the bill for that.” Hopefully that will be followed by one or two laughs.
You may then express your thanks to the bride for choosing you to be her maid of honour. You can tell how honored and thrilled you were when she asked you to have such a special place on her most special of days.
What tales Should You Relate?
You can start out by asserting how you have seen your girlfriend, the bride; go through many partners and relationships. You can say, “She never appeared quite content and satisfied until she met the groom.” You can relate some anecdotes about the two of you when you first met, whether as elementary school mates from the neighborhood, sharing a room together at university or any other funny event that can relay the long scope of your comradeship. If the bride is your sister, you can come up with many funny stories about growing up together.
You can then follow by exclaiming ( if you are not married or in a relationship yourself ) that you hope to sometime be as ecstatic as the bride is today and that you find a wonderful man like the groom to be your partner.
Finding just the right words might be hard, but what’s going to be even harder is making the toast without getting emotional. When you have a good friend and you are seeing her face so happy and shining, it can not help but move you and giving a speech to demonstrate your feelings about the bride and groom is an accolade you must take seriously.
