Tips And Tricks For Writing And Giving Best Man Speeches

By Billie Whidden

The bachelor party is not the only thing a best man gets to do when he’s the best man for his closest friend or brother. He also has to write his best man speech. It not easy to stand up in front of a lot of people and start talking, especially if you’re shy. Here are a few tips you can use for your speech.

Planning your speech is the best way to go since you have time from when you’re asked to be best man. At least most of the time. If you write down little anecdotes and things that happened leading up to the wedding, you’ll have all the information you need when it’s time to write your speech.

After you get your best man speech written – practice, practice, practice! The key to successful best man speeches is quite simple – get the speech written early and rehearse it for several times. The more time you spend practicing your speech the easier it will get. By the time the reception rolls around you’ll have it memorized. You will be able to stand in front of all the guests and say your speech without any problems.

Try not to use the old worn out joke of yesteryear. They have been told hundreds and thousands of time. Think up your own funny little jokes or use anecdotes from incidents that happened along the journey to the wedding. This makes it much more personal and touching. This helps break the ice, makes you comfortable, and relaxes the guests.

Keep your heavy drinking until the speech is over. Having one or two to relax you is okay but being intoxicate during your best man speech is usually all anyone will remember. Since you want your speech to be remembered keep track of how many glasses you have.

You want to look relaxed and calm during your speech. Not an easy feat if you don’t normally give speeches. Practicing your best man speech will give you the confidence you need to stand and deliver. After all, you want your best friend to remember and be touched by your speech.

The more practice you have saying your best man speech the less stress you’ll have. Practicing it will make you look more relaxed and calm. Start by using the little anecdotes to write your best man speech.
