Unusual Wedding Menu Fruits And Vegetables

By Aaron Hu

When planning your wedding reception menu, you may want to take into account the seasonal treasures that are offered at a lower cost than those that are out of season and harder for grocers and wholesalers to get into their stores. Most people do not realize that meats are seasonal items as well, for instance, Lamb is freshest in the spring and summer. Certain fruits and vegetables come in late in the fall while others–early to mid-summer is the perfect time to purchase. You have made sure that your wedding favors are unique wedding favors. Now make your wedding menu unique as well. Here are some tips to help you make your fruit and vegetable wedding menu unusual and just in time!

In the Good Old Summertime Summer is the time of plums and pluots. The pluot is an extremely sweet and overly juicy plum developed in the U.S. by Floyd Zaiger. This adventurous soul crossed the plum with the apricot to produce a tasty fruit that is absolutely addictive. Serving these delectable fruits is one way to ensure your wedding menu is a huge success. Another fruit that combines flavors is the nectarine, which you can only find in the summer time. For vegetable that are at their peak flavor in the summer, go with squash and zucchini. This gourd like veggie can be prepared in numerous styles of recipes and are always a hit.

Fall for Autumn Fresh turnips are hard to pass up and are a treat that many people go years in between enjoyment. Who can resist a fresh plate of sliced turnips with lemon and parsley? I know I cannot pass up seconds on these tongue-twisting treats of temptation. A nice surprise when cruising the reception buffet is a great spread of tomatillo. This little fruit/vegetable is related to the gooseberry but looks like a tomato. Purple and yellow in color, anyone who sees these jewels just has to try them and they almost always come back for more.

Winterize the Menu If your guests like grapefruit, they are sure to fall in love pommelos. This sweeter version of the popular fruit is still commonly served with either honey or sprinkled sugar and will turn heads with its bright color. Spice it up and serve it cold. As for a vegetable that will enhance the pommelo experience, lay out a plate of chicories nearby and watch them disappear. The Chicories, which include endive, escarole, and radicchio, are fabulous forms of lettuces that are fantastic standing alone or chapped and served with blue cheese to enhance their bittersweet edges. These study salad busters will stay fresh longer than standard lettuce and have a much bolder taste. No one who tries these delicacies will be able to resist a second serving and many will sneak a third.

Spring Time Foods A spring wedding is the dream of many a youthful girl. The air is fresh and clean and springtime rains make everything seem fresh. Just as fresh are the cherries that come into their peak freshness in the spring. I salivate to think of the wonderful recipes that involve cherries, including lamb. Kiwi fruit will also be as good as it gets in the early spring. For vegetables, you cannot go wrong if you are a lover of the green onion and rhubarb. Now is the time to serve that fresh rhubarb pie that the majority of your guest may have never experienced.

These are just a few of the choices that your guests will appreciate and love. They will make your wedding menu a one of a kind and unforgettable experience that all weddings should be.
