Weird Wedding Day Blues

By Aaron Hu

The most precious gifts you can give to your guests on your wedding day is glass wedding favors. There is such a wide variety of items that come in glass that your guests will be thrilled, especially if you go with the crystal wedding favors. My wife and I received a Crystal globe as a wedding favor and we love it. That was a great wedding but so many odd things happened that day that I was inspired to write about wedding day oddities. For instance, at this wedding, which was held in the same park that my wife and I married in, a squirrel ran up the brides dress and frightened her to tears. It is funny now but horrifying when it happened. Here are some other weird things that happened during weddings that were planned perfectly but as we all know, anything can happen and usually does.

In New York, Christine Henrick and David Fitzhenry tied the knot and had a great wedding. However, upon arriving at their destination afterwards, they wee so excited and overwhelmed by the day’s events that they left their wedding gifts inside the taxi and left for their honeymoon. Christine’s new dad Jim found out and tracked down the taxicab. When he asked the cabby and his boss where the box with the gifts went, the cab driver had already taken it upon himself to read one of the cards and obtain the address. He had taken the wedding gifts to the couple’s apartment and left it with the doorman! Imagine a trustworthy taxi driver in New York City!

In Hibiya Central Park in Tokyo, a young couple was married. It was a beautiful ceremony that made history. It turned out so well that everyone was pleased and will talk about it for years to come. At the end of the ceremony, the officiant said, “Please lift the Bride’s veil.” then started waving her arms in excitement as the 50 guests cheered. There was nothing unusual about this wedding except for the fact that the officiant was a robot. This may be the first wedding officiated by a robot. It is a cute little thing about four feet tall and has plastic pigtails. The Robot was controlled by an official several feet away hiding behind a black curtain. The Robot, named IFairy, wore a wreath of flowers.

In Japan, there is a new tradition that is taking hold where couples who are getting a divorce, do so in a ceremony where they say “I Do” to the judge who grants their request. Talk about doing things in reverse. Maybe they should say, “I Don’t”

In a cultural oddity, In Germany, the wedding guests break all of their old dishes. The bride and groom have to sweep up the mess and if they can keep up with cleaning the smashed dishes, their wedding will be a success. They also have a tradition where the bride is kidnapped by the best man and groomsmen and taken to a local pub. The grooms has to go and rescue her and pay the bar tab if he wants her back.

Finally, the German reception lasts well past midnight but at midnight, the bride takes off her veil and gives it to the woman who is most likely to get married next.
