It is perhaps the very last thing on your mind as the final preparations for the big day are being addressed. However, if you’re opting for a normal rite, it’s best that you make sure that the party is aware of the order of the marriage receptions speeches and toasts.

When are the toasts offered?

Naturally, it is down to you how you need to run your own wedding! In general, the primary toasts begin shortly after the primary course is finished. This happens before any cake is cut. Sometimes, there is a hospitable toast at the cocktail hour before the marriage dinner.

What is the order of the wedding reception speeches?

First up is the daddy of the bride who thanks all those for coming. Naturally he toasts his girl and welcomes the groom into his folks.

The daddy of the groom (sometimes though not always) speaks on behalf of the family, welcomes the bride and tells everybody how fortunate his son is!

The groom generally next in the order of marriage speeches; His role in the toasts is to thank all those for coming to the event and in particular he will toast his bride. He also needs time out thank his marriage party and family for all the help he has received.

The groomsman or best man is next. He will customarily tell some stories with varying level of humor and sensitiveness about the groom. This is always the longest toast and in most circumstances the most impatiently awaited.

Next in the order is the chief bridesmaid, who in a similar fashion (but with more sensitiveness) will tell the audience how proud she is to be in this role and what a great person the bride is.

Finally, in the conventional order marriage or wedding reception speeches, the bride will take the floor. She’ll re-affirm the thanks her husband has given to everyone and will also recognize the help her folks, bridal party and partner has given her over the past few months.

Occasionally, the ma of the bride or maybe other family members speaks but that is not as common as against the order set out above.
